Idents - BBC ONE

Definition: A short sequence shown on television between programmes to identify the channel.(1)

BBC ONE IDENTS

All of BBC Ones idents feature a circle, as well as the colour red.The colour red is used in their logo, which is why it features in the idents. The colour red symbolises a large variety of emotions including danger, energy, love and anger, this could represent the variety of genres of programmes.(2)

The circular motion is also used in each ident, which represents the 'O' in one. Other symbolic

meanings of the circle is unity, life and ongoing. These could all relate to the variation of programmes, and also the variation of the audience as BBC One show different programmes that will suit each individual whether age or general likes and dislikes.

In the first image, this ident shows a group of children dancing around in a rose garden. The children are all holding hands and have happy expressions on their faces as the petals float from the sky. I think that the red petals represent BBC One as it is the colour of their logo, This demonstrates the unity of people through BBC Ones programmes.
The second image is from another ident in which kites fly in a clockwise circular movement.
